Definition of Sustainable
The term sustainable is now widely used to describe a world in which both human and natural systems can continues to exist long into the future. The concept of ‘sustainable development “ is used to refer to alternatives to traditional patterns of physical, social and economic development that can avoid problems such as exhaustion of natural resources, ecosystem destruction, pollution, overpopulation, growing inequality, and the degradation of human living conditions.

“可持續的”定義
“Sustainable”現在廣泛地來形容一個社會或世界，人及自然都可以繼續保存到未來。 “Sustainable Development”(可持續發展)是一個概念關聯一些在物理(註:包括環境) ，社會及經濟上有別於傳統的發展模式。這些模式是可以避免一些大家當前面對的問題---自然資源的耗盡，生態系統破壞，污染，人口過剩，不平等(註:平等不等於公平)及人類生活情況下降。

從以上的定義可見Sustainable“可持續的” 是一個平衡自然及人類發展趨向的概念。當扭開電視及打開報紙，大家會發覺“可持續的” 近幾年出現多了, 但意思及本質和“可持續的”定義相同或相似嗎? 大家留意香港政府及傳媒(尤其是大眾傳媒)在一知半解的情況下經常濫用“可持續的”(sustainable)一詞。他們把“可持續的”單純的和加大/多生產及發展扯上關係但完全忽略自然環境的平衡！這因為sustainable一詞在國外風頭勁。正如在dot com年代，公司名加個 .com 都可以升上神檯一樣，用“可持續乜乜”當堂升價十倍，是否貨真價實大家心照啦!
最後，在此希望各位看官能將“可持續的”(sustainable)一詞正確定義在香港發揚開去，不要讓那些只見錢的發展商、無能傳媒再誤導大家！

P.S.我想就算係規劃署都應該無邊幾個知“可持續的”(sustainable)一詞正確定義。 :>
